Project Overview:

In this longform interview (which you can read in full here), I was honored to be featured in the Masters of Horror series—a platform spotlighting today’s horror creators and their creative processes. I spoke about my personal path into horror, the emotional roots of my storytelling, and how I navigate the balance between tradition and innovation in the genre.

The conversation also gave me space to discuss my recent and upcoming work, including my MFA thesis, a Midwest Gothic short story collection set in Peculiar, Missouri, and a historical horror novel steeped in Ozark folklore and family legacy.

Highlights from the Interview:

  • Reflected on childhood experiences with horror and early literary exposure through Stephen King and The Hand That Rocks the Cradle

  • Discussed how trauma, small-town life, and real-world instability shape my fiction

  • Spoke candidly about reader reactions to my novella Killing My Flesh Without You and how horror is interpreted differently by every audience

  • Explored horror as a tool to summon “forgotten truths” and challenge collective silence

  • Shared how modern horror’s diversity of voices revitalizes familiar tropes

Results:

  • Reached a new horror-focused audience via the Monsters & Mayhem community

  • Strengthened author brand visibility alongside other emerging and established horror writers

  • Provided a deeply personal articulation of my creative philosophy and literary mission

Skills Demonstrated:

  • Author branding & voice consistency

  • Interview participation with narrative depth

  • Genre expertise (literary horror, Midwest Gothic, historical horror)

  • Effective cross-promotion of current and upcoming publications

Ideal for:

  • Author websites and press kits
